SATURDAY JAN 24TH, MASTER & APPRENTICE CAMPAIGN 1 : SESSION 1

What’s going on everyone! Stephen here and the player controlling Aldor - resident trap expert, herbalist tinkerer and vampire hater. Wanted to fill in those interested in our Session 1 of the Master & Apprentice campaign! It kicked off at our employer Ukalis’ mystic shop in the dock district of Neverwinter.

I work with Cade, a seasoned fighter formerly of the army of Neverwinter but since been betrayed, outside of that I don’t know much about him, other than he can swing a warhammer like it’s made of paper. Our employer, Ukalis, is a mystery outside of whispers on the streets that he is a swindler. A seller of baubles “filled with miracles”, but in reality, rumor is they’re really just filled with illusion riddled water, jury’s still out on him. Reputation aside though, he has proven to be a talented mage.

Our adventure started on a normal day. Cade was in the back room, I was on the front stoop when a woman slipped by masking her face. She introduced herself as Melania, and she had a proposition for our little crew. See, our shop acquires the trinkets we sell ourselves, whether it’s going places others may not want to go to, or dealing with buyers most wouldn’t want to run into in the bread shop alley we happen to call our front yard. This woman somehow knew that, and offered us a job to go to the ruins of a sanctuary not far from Conyberry. This request wasn’t really a job outside of our normal scope, BUT the 200g contract price seemed a little too good to be true for a run to a set of ruins seemingly untouched. Conyberry was a logging settlement that was overrun by the Uthgardt Wolf Tribe from the far north well over a hundred years ago. Apparently some of the surviving settlers and workers of Conyberry got out and made it to this sanctuary nearby.

Melania revealed that one of these settlers had an amulet on them. Not just any amulet however, this amulet (after we pried a bit) allows the welder to locate any person, with almost no previous knowledge of them. This sparked the parties interest because of one thing….a stamp on the contract from Melania….the sigil of The Many Starred Cloak. If you’re not aware of the comings and goings of secret societies in Neverwinter, they’re a supposed disbanded and fairly infamous group of wizards and scholars who swore their allegiance to the rulers of Neverwinter - the Algondar family, before Neverember the 1st took control after the Spellplague.

The power shift during and after the plague leaves A LOT of questions open. Needless to say recent history has shown us that Neverember II is in distress, rumors say the Sons of Algondar, a new underground faction, rising against Neverembers rule. This has caused him to start sending out members of his guard, and possibly other nefarious agents to look for the heir to the name of Algondar. Me personally, I think the heir is a fairy tale told by those who don’t like high taxes and the rough and tumble city guard, BUT it would seem as though old Neverember may be a believer nowadays. Apparently, according to people that were there, an heir to the Algondar family escaped that day with help of some loyal followers and hasn’t been seen since the cataclysm.

Now, why this concerns us…..you’re telling me, a mage, bearing a contract stamp with the Many Starred Cloak, is looking for an amulet that allows people to be tracked, BUT this person also came from the Castle District, which I found out after PERFECTLY tracking Melania and her hooded master (clearly Jeralt, more on him later) ….could it be that the Many Starred Cloak are still very real and have infiltrated the upper echelons of society and are close to Neverember as undercover enemies? OR, is that sigil a ploy and they’re secretly working for Neverember and are locating this amulet as a way to snuff out the heir if one exists?

Welp, politics shmoliticks we accepted and left the next day after some run ins with Jeralt, the single most corrupt “merchant” of the city, and after I, Aldor, single handedly saved a woman and her child from the Sons of Jeralt, which suspiciously is another faction that came into play as our adventure began (and one the DM doesn’t think is real but I KNOW it is…).

Cade smashed a boar with my help, cooked it up and the trails were mostly calm until we came to a pack of orcs clearly looking for a new home in the form of a coffin. Cade tactically surprised them and we will surely dispatch them like the heroes of old in Session 2!
